Saving & Loading Symbols

Saving a Symbol

Once your custom symbol is ready:

  1. Go to FileSave (to update an existing symbol) or Save As (to create a new one).
  2. Enter a Name (required) and optional Description.
  3. Toggle Public if you want other SkyWire Studio users to be able to use your symbol.
  4. Click Save.

A thumbnail image is generated automatically from the current canvas, so the symbol is easy to identify in the library.

Loading a Symbol

To edit an existing custom symbol:

  1. In the Symbol Editor, go to FileLoad.
  2. Browse or search the symbol library. Each entry shows the symbol's name, description, thumbnail, and owner.
  3. Click a symbol to load it into the editor.
tip

You can only edit symbols that you own. Loading another user's public symbol opens it as a new untitled symbol that you can modify and save as your own.

Deleting a Symbol

From the Load modal, you can delete your own symbols using the delete button next to each entry.

Placing a Custom Symbol on a Diagram

From the main wiring diagram editor:

  1. Open the Symbols menu in the toolbar.
  2. Select Custom Symbol and browse the symbol library.
  3. Click a symbol to select it. The tool switches to placement mode.
  4. Click on the canvas to place the symbol.

Once placed, the custom symbol behaves like any built-in symbol — you can drag it, rotate it, connect wires to its connection points, right-click it for options (Delete, Duplicate, Add to BOM), and it participates in the undo/redo history.
